A Family of Faith

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church welcomes all of God’s children and, with Christ’s guidance, offers a caring, friendly, atmosphere for worship, spiritual growth, fellowship and discipleship. Mission and service are the foundation of Shepherd of the Hills congregation. We believe that our purpose is to serve others. As we grow in faith we continue to seek ways in which service can be our central focus. We are a family of believers who are eager to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are a congregation of young and old, seekers and believers, new creations in Christ, and long time Christian’s. We are a welcoming community that includes and invites everyone to share in a wonderful worship life and grow in God’s love.

There is much laughter and joy in our congregation. We sing together, give praise, worship, and volunteer our time and gifts to others. Our hospitality and friendliness is real and meant for all, our communion table is open to all.
If we can help on your journey of faith, minister to you in any way, or celebrate along with you in life’s special occasions, please let us be of service to you. You are welcome at any time!

Our History

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church was first organized on February 21st, 1988, and originally met at Trinity Lutheran College for a number of years until a permanent site was identified.

Pastor James Reide was our first pastor, and was called in June of 1986.  He began his ministry on September 1 as a mission developer.  Pastor Reide's call was extended and he continued to serve Shepherd of the Hills until July, 1998.
Today, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church sits on 4.46 acres in Issaquah, Washington.  Our building permit for the sanctuary, narthex, administrative offices, classrooms and kitchen was first issued on February 21st, 1995.  A second building permit was issued in 2005 for an addition that extended the fellowship hall and provided a new, modern and spacious kitchen.

Pastor Arden Barden served as interim Pastor from July 1998 through November 1999.

Pastor Joel Kutzke accepted a call at Shepherd of the Hills in December 1999.  He began his ministry on December 25, 1999 and served through November 24, 2008.

Pastor Martha Meyers served as interim pastor from November 2008 through June 2010.

Shepherd of the Hills called Pastor Drahus Oslik who began his ministry on June 21, 2010.

Shepherd of the Hills continues to be a church with a vision of growth in the future and continued work of Christ.  Through many ministries both inside and outside of our community, and our desire to make Shepherd of the Hills a welcoming place, we shall persevere in our mission to be a Christ centered prayerful community, a sanctuary of love, acceptance and healing, with a passion to live and share the work of God.
