Women in Mission
The Women in Mission began in 2003 and has evolved to support two main causes: midwife kits for developing countries and tuition support for Naseriani Lemama, a Maisai girl at the MaeSae Girls Lutheran Secondary School in Tanzania. We have also provided hats for the homeless at Nightwatch.
We meet once a month on the last Tuesday of each month to assemble the midwife kits which are sent to Global Health Ministries in Minneapolis. They ship the kits to South America, Africa and Asia. We send between 200 and 400 kits each year.
Once a year we sponsor a bake sale to raise funds for Naseriani’s tuition and shipping costs of the midwife kits. This year we also sponsored a friendship tea for women and presented a slide show on the life of Maisai women (Maisai are nomadic herdsmen in Tanzania and Kenya. They live today as they have lived for a thousand years.)
Nine women are consistently involved, but many women in the congregation contribute in some way – donating items for the midwife kits or providing bake sale and craft items for our annual bake sale.
