What to Expect

Quilts placed near the altar at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Sammamish, WA.

It is our sincere hope that you feel welcomed and invited to worship with us and hear the good news of God’s love for you. Please join us! We follow a worship pattern of Gathering, Word, Meal and Sending

Gathering:  we come together as the people of God. We greet one another and join together in song and prayer. Sometimes our Gathering starts with breakfast. At all times our Gathering starts in the name of God — Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Word:  we hear readings from the Bible followed by a sermon. A speech choir has presented our readings at times. We’ve had conversational sermons at times. There’s a puppet show to help bring the Bible readings to young believers (as well as the adults!). We may confess our faith in the words of an ancient Creed. We pray for the church, the world and all those in need.

Meal:  we celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday. As Lutheran Christians we believe Christ is truly present in the bread and wine of Holy Communion. In this meal Christ offers us forgiveness of sins, nourishes our faith and calls us to live as God’s people in the world. This is food for our journey of faith. All are welcome to receive this food, no exceptions.

Sending:  after feasting at the Lord ’s Table we pray and receive a blessing. We are then sent out to share God’s love with all, which is our mission statement.

Worship is followed by a time for fellowship and refreshments.
